Every person experiences the process of dental care differently. Just as everyone's pain threshold is different, for some people a mere visit to the dentist is a great fear to overcome. Dentists usually perform complex procedures under local anesthesia.

But since some patients are very sensitive to pain, or are overly emotional, in order to provide the patient with a comfortable and painless treatment modern dentistry actively uses sedation or dental treatment under general anesthesia.

Undoubtedly, each case is individual and is determined by your dentist during the consultation. You can always make an appointment for a preliminary examination to determine your individual and comfortable treatment regimen!

What is sedation

Sedation – is a "sleep-like" state in which a person feels calm and can relax during a procedure, including dental procedures. In a state of sedation, the patient is relaxed enough to perform the procedure while being able to follow the doctor's commands. This creates excellent conditions for the operation and its successful completion.

This happens because sedation causes a strong relaxation, which makes the perception of external stimuli, such as sound, various touches, light, and the like, dull.

Types of sedation

Deep sedation
During deep sedation, the patient is asleep and cannot follow the doctor's commands. Nevertheless, deep sedation is supplemented with local anesthesia because it does not completely disable sensation.

Superficial sedation
However, surface sedation is most commonly used in dentistry. This is a state in which the patient does not lose the ability to follow the instructions of the attending physician and is in a state of mild relaxation. Like deep sedation, superficial sedation requires the presence of local anesthesia.

Sedation is most often used when extracting teeth, especially multi-rooted teeth. The type of drugs and their dosage are determined differently for each person depending on the patient's body reaction. A team of professional anesthesiologists is present at each operation.

However, despite all the advantages of sedation, there are some contraindications to sedation. These contraindications are: alcohol and drug intoxication, allergy to the local anesthetic used and pregnancy.

Our clinic is proud to have the opportunity sedated pediatric dental care. A very delicate approach is important in order to calculate the right amount of medication and apply it.

This is important so that the child can comfortably fall into a state of sleep under the supervision of a specialist and no less comfortably return to their usual state after the operation is completed. This operation does not affect the child's psyche and prevents the child from having a fear of going to the dentist.
